More About Me and My Journey to Reiki
After more than 25 years of working in a hospital setting, where the focus of care is on the physical body, I felt called to explore ways to treat the mind and spirit as well … the whole person. I was acutely aware of the mind/body connection and the ways that emotional and spiritual distress can impact health. I taught stress management classes and used guided meditations to help patients through chemotherapy, but I knew there had to be something more. I set out on a journey of discovery and found that “something more” … I found Reiki.
I received my first Reiki treatment in 2008, followed quickly by my first Reiki class, and I knew I had found my calling. Reiki energy brings peace, love, and light to everything, all with the simple, gentle touch of the hands. Reiki has brought so much joy to my life and has helped me to grow, both spiritually and emotionally. It has led me to people and places that have changed my life in countless ways.
I can’t help but smile when clients tell me how calm, relaxed, and peaceful they feel after receiving Reiki, or how much it helps to reduce their anxiety during medical treatments. One of my favorite moments was when I gave Reiki to an elderly woman who was extremely anxious about having an IV started. She actually dozed off while the nurse was starting the IV, awoke shortly after and said “Wow … I didn’t even feel that! Do you think it was ‘that treatment’ you were giving me?” Of course it was! I have also had the privilege of offering Reiki to people as their spirits depart this earthly realm. I was blessed to offer Reiki to my mother as she peacefully took her last breath.
Because of my belief in the power of Reiki and my desire to share it with others, I recently took a leap of faith and reduced my scheduled hours at my hospital job so I can devote more time to offering individual Reiki sessions, as well as teaching Reiki to adults and children. A Peaceful Heart Reiki was born from this desire.
I invite you to join me on this journey and experience how the power of Reiki can help you to heal your body, calm your mind, and renew your spirit.
